OHLGS- Tuesday October 24, 2017: The Local Government Service (LGS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for the placement of YEA graduate interns in the LGS. The MoU which was signed by the Head of Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur on behalf of the LGS and the CEO of YEA, Mr. Augustine Frimpong Kodua was witnessed by Directors of the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) and the Youth Employment Agency as well as the media.
Mr. Kodua expressed appreciation to the LGS for the collaboration. He indicated that the internship programme was an interim measure to address the staffing needs of public sector institutions and to give unemployed graduates some respite. He said the partnership agreement with the LGS would ensure that human capital of YEA were placed in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country. He thanked the Head of Service and his team for making the process a reality and looked forward to a stronger collaboration in the future.
Dr. Arthur said, youth unemployment had become a national security issue as such the agreement between the Service and YEA was a step in the right direction. He indicated that in future recruitment, the LGS would allot 30% of the available vacancies to YEA graduate interns with appreciable experience working with local governments. He called for a sustained partnership between the LGS and YEA; and stated that the agreement would be renewed every two (2) years.
