OHLGS UNDERTAKES REFRESHER TRAINING FOR DEPUTY DIRECTORS AND ANALOGOUS GRADES

Ejisu – August 5 & 6, 2019: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) has organised a two-day refresher training for Eighty Eight (88) Deputy Directors and analogous grades in the Local Government Service (LGS) due for promotion to their next higher grades.

Workshop participants were drawn from seven job classes namely; Administrative, Social Development, Agriculture, Internal Audit, Engineering, Budget and Planning.
The officers were schooled on Ghana’s Public Administration system; Decentralisation and Local Governance with focus on Local Governance Act (Act 936) and the Departments of District Assemblies Commencement Instrument (L.I. 1961). Other areas of consideration were Public Financial Management and Procurement; Human Resource Management in the Public Service; Leadership at the Local Level; and Management of the Workplace challenges and Health.

Experts drawn from the field of practice and academia facilitated the training sessions.
Opening the workshop, the Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur underscored the importance of training in the development of skills and competencies for effective performance; and preparation for higher tasks and responsibilities. He urged the officers to make meritocracy, pragmatism and honesty a priority in the course of duty. This he said “will contribute to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Service”.

The Regional Co-ordinating Director for the Ashanti Region, Mrs. Emelia Botchwey who represented the Regional Minister commended the officers for their dedication, hard work and commitment over the years. She implored them to be diligent to maintain the highest levels of professional standards to complement government’s efforts in achieving the national decentralisation agenda.

In all, a total of One Hundred and Ninety Five (195) Deputy Directors and officers of analogous grades will be trained.
Training for the next batch of One Hundred and Seven (107) officers commences on Thursday August 8 and ends on Friday August 9, 2019 at the same venue.
