WORLD BANK TEAM PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE HEAD OF SERVICE

OHLGS – TUESDAY, 9TH MAY, 2017: A Team from the World Bank tasked to monitor the implementation of the Local Government Capacity Support Project (LGCSP) in Ghana, paid a courtesy call on the Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur. Also present at the meeting were the Chief Director, Mr. Joseph Dasanah and other senior officers of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).

The Head of the team, Mr. Martin Onyach-Olaa, congratulated Dr. Nana Ato Arthur on his appointment as Head of the Local Government Service. Mr. Onyach-Olaa said, the project which was to have ended in 2017 has been extended to June 2018, to fully meet its set targets. He expressed the World Banks’ commitment to support the Service improve on its service delivery. Working closely and building a very good and cordial relation with the Service according to him has been the interest of the World Bank.

The Head of Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur was full of praise to the World Bank for extending a helping hand to supporting the Services’ effort towards ensuring good governance and effective service delivery at the local level. With specific reference to the World Bank providing the Service with a technical advisor, who has for some time now, been of great help in diverse ways.

 Dr Nana Ato Arthur used the platform to make his vision to the Service known to the team. He cited the use of a workable ICT and digital mapping as one of the project to be embarked on by the Service to help improve revenue generation while improving the means of identifying ratable properties and mapping in all the MMDAs. He expressed optimism that Local Economic Development which allows the involvement of the local people will help reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

The Local Government Capacity Support Project  is a World Bank funded Project aimed at enhancing Fiscal Decentralisation and Financial Management Reforms in the country.
