EMBRACE DISTRICT LEAGUE TABLE INTO YOUR DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS- HEAD OF SERVICE TO MMDAs

Accra – Friday, March 1, 2024: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has encouraged Metropolitan, Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs) to consciously ensure efforts to deliver the sectors and indicators of District the League Table (DLT). Dr. Ato Arthur prayed the MMDAs to incorporate the selected indicators into their annual action plans and budget to inspire development at the sub – national level. 

The Head of Service made the statement during the second edition of the 2024 National District League Awards organised in Accra by the Millennium Excellence Foundation and the National Development Planning Commission under the theme: “Recognising Transparency, Accountability and evidence – based decision – making”. 

The Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur said the District Lague Table has emerged as a pivotal tool to promote transparency, accountability, and evidence- based decision making at the national and sub – national level since 2014 to empower districts to hold local leaders and duty bearers accountable for their services and outcomes. He said though the DLT tool is to encourage healthy competitions among MMDAs in Ghana, it is also to foster a culture of continuous improvement where MMDAs incentivised are to strive for excellence and draw lessons on best practices in local government administration. 

The Head of Service acknowledged that the DLT has over the years provided a unique platform where the performance of MMDAs are assessed in terms of service delivery.  

The Head of Service commended the organisers: Millennium Excellence Foundation for putting together the award scheme. He also commended the National Development Planning Comminssion (NDPC) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Ghana for their unwavering commitment to the DLT. This according to him, has helped in tracking national development and highlighting the performance and challenges of MMDAs in Ghana.  

 The overall best Municipal Assembly, after ranking 6th in the 2021 edition was the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) the in the second edition of the 2024 District League Table (DLT) National District Awards. 

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of KoKMA, Mr. Nii Adjei Tawiah, expressed appreciation to the Millennium Excellence Foundation, the Executive Board, and National Development Planning Commission for recognising the tremendous efforts the Assembly has contributed to national development. 

He assured that the assembly would continue to work hard and aim for excellence. This he said was achievable with the support of the individual and communities in the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly. He also urged the public to contribute their quota in keeping the cities clean in order to ensure a clean and safe environment. 

The 2022 DLT focused on eight (8) sectors which include education, health, nutrition, water, sanitation, energy, governance, and child protection.
