HEAD OF SERVICE MEETS NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL

OHLGS – TUESDAY APRIL 10, 2018: The Head of Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur met a 3 – member delegation from the National Peace Council (NPC) led by the Acting Executive Secretary to deliberate on opportunities for partnership between the two institutions. The NPC is seeking to partner the Service to facilitate and develop mechanisms for conflict prevention, management and resolution; and to build sustainable peace at the regional and district levels.

The Acting Executive Secretary indicated that peace was a precursor for development which occurred in spaces managed by sub national governments. To this end, he said it was important for the National Peace Council to partner the Local Government Service (LGS) to build the capacities of regional and district level actors in the prevention and handling of conflicts situations across the country.

Dr Arthur said the timing for the collaboration between the two institutions was critical as the creation of the new Regions and Assemblies for example could be potential grounds for conflict situations. He indicated that in the future, the OHLGS would consider the inclusion of peace building modules developed by the NPC in capacity building programmes organised for staff of the Service.

Present at the meeting were Directors and other senior officers of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).
