HOS ENCOURAGES GALGA ON PROFESSIONALISM

Koforidua –Friday November 17, 2023: The Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has encouraged members of the Ghana Association of Local Government Administrators (GALGA) on the need to demonstrate professionalism in the line of duty. He made the statement during the 4TH Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Association held in Koforidua.

Dr. Ato Arthur said that in order to excel in the management and administration of Local Governance, it is important for officers to demonstrate leadership skills through ethical and innovative means in their various Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs). He revealed that the Local Government is dynamic and subject to change from working in silos to team working. This he admonished the members of the Association to embrace a harmonious working relationship to secure an effective public service which would gear the Association towards its desired growth.

The Head of Service cautioned against the creeping culture of indiscipline among some members and directed Executives of the Association to sanction culpable ones. He emphasised that the work of the Administrative Class was pivotal in the various RCCs and MMDAs and encouraged them to provide the required institutional memories. He also urged them to demonstrate respect to key players such as clients and take advantage of the digital age to learn new skills to enhance their capacity.

The President of the Association, Mr. Edmund Osei-Gyamfi, expressed appreciation to the Head of Service on behalf of members of the Association for gracing the occasion. He described the concerns raised by Head of Service as insightful and gave the assurance they would be adhered to.
