OHLGS – Thursday August 19, 2021: The Head of Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur received a five (5) member delegation from the Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhIS) led by its President, Surv. Dr. John Amaglo. The visit was to deepen and build a stronger collaboration between the GhIS and the Local Government Service.

Dr. Arthur welcomed the delegation and noted the critical contribution of quantity surveyors in service delivery. He noted that surveyors play a very vital role in the Works Department in the overall discharge of the mandate of the MMDAs.

Dr. Amaglo indicated that GhIS is responsible for the professional development of Land, Quantity and Valuation & Estate Surveyors which make up the Institute. He intimated that GhIS have technical expertise and competency for skills and capacity development in revenue (property rate) collection and valuation services. He added that the quest by institutions to improve productivity and achieve value for money require a change in policy direction to bring the services of the private sector on board.

The Head of Service expressed gratitude to the delegation for the good will of the institute in collaborating and supporting the efforts of the Service to improve service delivery. He said the issues raised will be discussed with management and response therefrom will be communicated to the leadership of GhIS. He urged for continuous engagement between the two agencies to deepen the current relationship.

Also present at the meeting were the Chief Director, Mr. James Oppong-Mensah and the Director for Management and Technical Services, Mrs. Lilian Baeka of the Office of the Head of Local Government Service.
