VARIOUS: In line with the unwavering quest for excellence, the Local Government Service (LGS) has adopted a regulatory portal using the Smart Workplace. The creation of the regulatory portal aims to empower all Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to electronically submit all reports, official documents, and other correspondence to the OHLGS.
Consequently, the Office of the Head of the Local Government has undertaken a nationwide sensitisation exercise to sensitise staff on the use of the smart workplace.
The Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, disclosed during the last zonal sensitisation workshop held at Koforidua in the Eastern Region, that the adoption of the smart workplace would help address issues such as delays in the submission of reports, poor document management and, help the Service in its transformational drive of boosting transparency, accountability, and efficiency across the Service.
Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, reiterated the need for the Service to embrace technology and leverage on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to streamline administrative processes, improve communication with citizens and increase transparency in decision making. This he said has become a major intervention to ensure that cities and rural communities become more inclusive in the decision-making processes.
He encouraged Regional Coordinating Directors (RCDs) to note of the rationale behind the exercise and regularly build the capacity of staff on the use of the platform to enhance service delivery at the sub-national level.
The Chief Director at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, Mrs Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye, who opened the first of the nationwide sensitisation workshop on behalf of the Head of Service in Kumasi, said, the initiative represents a significant step towards the modernisation of the Service to ensure efficient service delivery. The intention, she said, was to create a robust digital platform to operationalise the Smart Workplace towards the digitalisation of the operations of the OHLGS, RCCs, and MMDAs.
