WAPS CALLS ON THE HEAD OF SERVICE

OHLGS – Wednesday February 14, 2018: A team from the War Against Poor Sanitation (WAPS) has called on the Head of Local Government Service Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur to congratulate him on his appointment as Head of the Local Government Service. The visit was also to brief him on some of WAPS initiatives and to invite him as one of the main speakers for an upcoming Go-Clean Campaign programme schedule for 16th March, 2018.

The team indicated that sanitation had health implications as such WAPS intended to use education and advocacy to improve the attitudes of Ghanaians. The team said WAPS had conducted a number of studies on the state of refuse and choked drains in markets and findings revealed that refuse were kept in the market for about 3 weeks and more; and that situation could lead to the outbreak of sickness and diseases.
According to WAPS, kiosks will be mounted at vantage points for sanitation wardens to monitor waste collection and dustbin distribution.

Dr Arthur said WAPS strategy was in line with one of the thematic areas of the vision of the Local Government Service. He lauded the efforts of WAPS and urged them to collaborate with the Ministry of Sanitation & Water Resources as well as Chief Executives of the various Assemblies for the Go-Clean Ghana campaign programme.

The team presented the Head of Service with a citation.
