OHLGS – Wednesday, October 1, 2025: The Japanese Development Service (JDS) has officially opened its application portal for admission and scholarship opportunities into the Japanese Graduate Schools (JGS) for the 2026 academic year. The scholarship is available to staff of selected institutions including the Local Government Service (LGS) as part of efforts to enhance human capital development of Ghana.
This support by the Government of Japan is designed to provide postgraduate academic opportunities aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and equip professionals with the expertise necessary to support the formulation and implementation of socio-economic development.
On behalf of the Head of Service and Management, the Director of the Planning, Policy, Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate (PPM&E), Mr. Prosper Ahalivor, expressed sincere appreciation to the JDS team for their continued support. He described the programme as a “golden opportunity” for professional development within the LGS.
Mr. Ahalivor noted that while LGS staff have benefitted from the JDS programme in past years, the range of available courses has been somewhat limited. He therefore appealed to the JDS team to consider expanding the scope of the programme to include a broader range of disciplines, particularly in technical areas relevant to the work of the Service.
He further encouraged staff to take full advantage of this opportunity to enhance both their personal and professional growth. He expressed confidence that the knowledge and expertise gained through the programme would contribute significantly to improved service delivery across the Local Government Service.
During an interactive session, staff of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) engaged the JDS team with questions regarding the application process. The JDS representatives responded by guiding them through the eligibility criteria and application procedures for the 2026 programme.
