HEAD OF SERVICE CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON STAFF

Tema West – Tuesday November 26, 2019: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has condemned attacks on some staff of the Tema West Municipal Assembly when he addressed the media at the Assembly’s conference room on recent happenings of assault on some of its staff. The incident which occurred on Monday November 25, 2019 witnessed some level of assault meted on the Assembly’s taskforce led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Adwoa Amoako on the premises of the Anointed Palace Church, Community 18, Tema.

Narrating the incident to the press, Dr. Ato Arthur stated that as part of improving revenue generation, the Tema West Municipal Assembly embarked on a revenue mobilization exercise. He stated that the exercise took off on the said day at about 10:00am and as part of the normal practice of the Assembly, the engineer requested for the church’s building permit documents which they failed to produce despite the fact that four summons had been issued to the leadership of the church. The unfortunate incident of violent attacks on the Assembly’s taskforce happened when an inscription of “Produce permit by TWMA” was about to be written by the taskforce when the agitated youth of the church rushed on them, beat them with sticks, metal strips, cutlasses and smashing their vehicles.

The Head of Service said the incident has been reported to the Sakumono Police Station and five of the perpetuators arrested. He therefore gave a strong word of caution to the general public that any institution or body found culpable of assaulting a public officer in the discharge of his/her lawful official duties would be duly prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.

Dr. Nana Ato Arthur also addressed staff of the Assembly and assured them that the Service would take the necessary action to ensure occurrences of this nature does not happen in future. He urged the staff to be professional in their discharge of their duties. He commended the MCE for her leadership to improve resource envelope of the Assembly.

Present at the meeting were the Acting Chief Director of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), Mr. James Oppong Mensah, some directors of the OHLGS, and Directors of the Tema West Municipal Assembly.
