Accra- Wednesday, January 31, 2024: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) has organised a series of training workshop on Occupational Health and Safety at the workplace for its staff.
The training programme held at the conference room of the OHLGS drew participants from the lower and middle management levels to identify and discuss the possible measures in addressing the many health challenges that affect the well-being and productivity of staff in the Service.
In a brief opening remark, the Head of Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur said Management of the OHLGS recognizes the importance of prioritizing the well-being of Staff of the OHLGS and the Service at large. He expressed the commitment of management in fostering a culture of safety, where officers and every member of staff feels secure and empowered to carry out their duties in a healthy and protected environment.
He urged participants to actively participate in the presentations and together foster a culture where safety is not just a priority but a shared responsibility of the Management and Staff of the OHLGS.
Facilitators were experts from the Mental Health Department of the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Fire Service, and the Ambulance Service. They treated topics such as Understanding Workplace Health and Safety; Critical Issues in Workplace Health and Safety; Occupational Hazards; Risk Assessment; Mental Health related issues, Workplace Safety Programmes, Fire Outbreak at the Workplace, and methods of putting them out.
The workshop was interactive, and demonstrative, which gave staff the leverage to discuss their workplace health challenges for possible counselling. They were advised to replicate all the knowledge gained from the training in their respective Departments and Units in order to increase optimum capacity in the office.
The Director of Administration, Ms. Golda Asante, expressed appreciation to the Facilitators for availing them themselves for the training programme and commended staff of the OHLGS for also participating and contributing to the success of the training programme.
