Accra – Friday, 21st June, 2024: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has lauded the role of funded international education in Ghana’s local governance systems and public service delivery. He said, the country has seen remarkable improvements, thanks to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Scholarship Program in particular.
According to Dr Arthur, over 1,587 Ghanaian public officials have benefitted from KOICA scholarships, acquiring crucial skills and knowledge. These professionals, he said, have returned with innovative ideas and best practices that have significantly improved governance at the local levels.
Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur emphasized the impact of international education. He highlighted how the KOICA alumni have driven improvements in transparency, efficiency, and service delivery in local governance.
Despite facing challenges such as limited resources and resistance to change, the integration of these new skills continues to progress. Continuous training and adaptation of Korean strategies to Ghana’s specific needs remains vital, he admitted.
Dr. Ato Arthur called for stronger collaboration between international education programs and local governance. He envisions a future where every skill acquired through KOICA directly contributes to building more capable, transparent, and effective local government systems.
He called for a more integrated approach to governance and sustainable local-level development. He commended the dedication of KOICA-GHANA and the alumni for their efforts in paving the way for a brighter future for communities across Ghana.
In celebrating these successes and committing to continuous improvement and collaboration, Dr Arthur said, together, educational benefits can be transformed into tangible improvements for our communities.
He made these statements at a seminar in Accra, organized by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Ghana, in collaboration with the KOICA Alumni Association of Ghana (KAAG) under the theme: “The Impact of the ‘Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow’ Program in Public Service Delivery in Ghana.
