Accra-Wednesday September 1, 2021: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur received a six-member delegation from the School of Economics, University of Cape Coast (UCC). The visit was among other things to discuss possible areas of collaboration and partnership between the University of Cape Coast and the Local Government Service. It was also to introduce some training programmes aimed at building the capacities of staff of the Service.
Dr. Arthur was elated about the warmth and mutually beneficial deliberations as well as the efforts of UCC to partner with the Service. He pledged the Service’s commitment and urged for development of well-tailored programmes that supports the professional development of staff. He intimated that officers that could immediately benefit from these sandwich programmes and short courses would include those in the Statistics, Budget, Information Technology (IT) and Planning classes.
Another possible area of collaboration suggested by the Head of Service was opportunities for students to acquire on the job experience and practical skills to make them better prepared for the world of work after graduation.
The leader of the delegation, Prof. Ekow Asmah on his part expressed appreciation to the Head of Service for the opportunity and warm reception. He indicated that the School of Economics would meticulously design some programmes to meet the peculiar needs of staff. He said he would invite the Head of Service to share his experience in the Public Service and local governance in particular with student.
The collaboration will see staff of the Service receive training in the area of Data Analysis to aid decision making.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Director Mr James Oppong -Mensah and Dr Charles Kessey, Director of Research, Statistics and Information Management.
