HEAD OF SERVICE TOURS 3 ASSEMBLIES IN THE ASHANTI REGION

Kumasi-Tuesday October 1, 2109: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur has visited the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal, Atwima Mponua and Ahafo-Ano South District Assemblies in the Ashanti Region.

The visit forms part of a nationwide familiarization tour of Assemblies to interact with staff and acquaint himself with the operations of the Assemblies in general. The Head of Service was accompanied by the Acting Chief Director, Mr James Oppong-Mensah and other senior officers at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).

Dr Arthur and his team paid courtesy calls on the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Agyeman and the Chief Executives of the selected Assemblies visited. The courtesy calls provided a platform that enabled the heads of the institutions visited to discuss successes, concerns, challenges and way forward with the Head of Service and his team.

In an open forum style of interaction with staff, the Head of Service mentioned a number of issues which included the LGS code of conduct and service delivery standards. He also used the platform to shed light on his four thematic areas of innovations (Local Economic Development, Internally Generated Funds, Workplace Environment and Sanitation) which he said if implemented would contribute immensely to the development of Assemblies in the country. He entreated them to find novel ways to realise the above innovations.He implored the Chief Executives to ensure that officers have a filth free environment and are provided with adequate tools and equipment to execute their duties effectively especially the Environmental Health Officers.

Other areas Dr Arthur discussed were staff attitudes to work and cautioned against the misuse of social media during productive hours, non-involvement of staff in active partisan politics and the need for officers to be political neutral in the discharge of their duties. He also called on staff to improve and strive for excellence in service delivery.

The Chief Executives of the Assembles visited expressed appreciation to the Head of Service and his team for the visit. Staff also took advantage of the opportunity and sought clarification on issues of concern from the Head of Service and his team.
