OHLGS PARTICIPATES IN 2019 MEET-THE-PRESS-SERIES

Accra – Wednesday May 29, 2019: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) participated in the May 2019 Meet-the-Press-Series organized for agencies in the decentralization sector spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD). The Acting Chief Director of the OHLGS, Mr. James Oppong – Mensah was present at the event and took part in the inspection of the exhibitions mounted.

Addressing the media, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama stated that interventions in the local governance sector had contributed to job creation with over 3,000 staff recruited into the Local Government Service. She further mentioned that as part of efforts to improve public service delivery by local governments, capacities of staff had been built through training workshops and staff deployment. Opportunities were also given for questions, answers and clarifications after the Minister made her presentations.

The OHLGS mounted a photo exhibition at the event and showcased outputs of activities, programmes and interventions undertaken in addition to the display of policy frameworks and manuals developed to facilitate the delivery of the administrative decentralization mandate of the Service. The exhibition mounted showed outcomes of the nationwide sensitization workshop on the Inter-Service and Sectoral Collaboration and Co-operation Systems (ISCCS), the 4th Professional Conference organized to build the capacities of staff of the Service among many others.

Present at the event were Deputy Ministers of MLGRD; Heads and staff of agencies in the local governance sector; and the press.

“Meet-the-Press-Series” is an event organised by the Ministry of Information for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the country to among other things, inform the wider publics on their mandates and showcase outcomes of public service delivery interventions.
