OHLGS COMPLETES SERIES OF TRAININGS FOR ITS STAFF

Accra– September 1-2, 2021: A 2 day refresher certificate course on defensive driving has been completed for drivers as part of a series of trainings organized for staff of the office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS). The training was to upgrade participant’s knowledge and job skills in defensive driving in line with the service protocol.

In a brief opening remark, Chief Director of the OHLGS, Mr. James Oppong-Mensah, was elated about the initiative to develop the capacities of staff especially junior officers of the OHLGS.

According to him, capacity development of staff must be a priority and sustained to boost staff productivity. He said the subject of driving and especially safety on the roads is a crucial subject especially in these times where carnage has reached unacceptable levels.

He urged participants to make most of the opportunity offered in order to make their driving career accident free.

In all, sixteen (16) drivers from the OHLGS benefited from the training. The aspect of the training on professional driving was facilitated by sectional heads from the state transport company (STC) namely, Ing. W.K Farmer, Mr. Joseph Adjei, Mr. Abdullahi Bawah, Mr. David Kwasi Toesu and Mr. Victor Yeboah. The aspect on LGS protocols was facilitated by Director of Administration at the OHLGS Ms. Golda Asante.

Participants were treated to simulation exercises and highway codes which included road signs and markings, causes and prevention of accidents, vehicle safety checks, Inspection and maintenance of vehicles. Other issues discussed were disciplinary matters, defensive driving techniques, first aid and perception of danger.

The training was delivered through interactive sessions and group assignments which were presented at plenary for peer review. This approach enabled the facilitators to respond to the questions and concerns expressed by participants.

At the end of the second day session, the Chief Director Mr. James Oppong-Mensah expressed satisfaction on outcomes of the training and commended the facilitators for good delivery. He reminded the participants that the OHLGS needs competent drivers to support efforts aimed to deliver its vision as ‘a world class decentralized and client-oriented Service’.

Participants were awarded certificates of participation from the State Transport Company.
