ACCRA – TUESDAY FEBRUARY 20, 2024: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has identified digitalisation as the best avenue for development permit administration in Ghana. Dr. Ato Arthur has therefore entreated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to digitise permit acquisition processes to maximise revenue generation.
The Head of Service made the admonition when the Ministry of Trade and Industry organised a Business Regulatory Reform (BBR) forum for selected Coordinating Directors to dialogue on Development Permit Administration.
The agenda aims to establish a world-class business regulatory framework in Ghana by improving the quality, and transparency of regulatory institutions and create a conducive business environment to attract private capital, stimulate youth entrepreneurship and job creation.
Ing. Dr. Ato Arthur described the programme as a major step towards the improvement of development planning system within the MMDAs.
The programme coordinated and implemented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, in partnership with various stakeholders in the private and public sectors is said to be an integral component of Government’s Economic and Industrial Transformation Agenda that aims at establishing a world-class Regulatory Administration in Ghana, by improving the quality, predictability, and transparency of regulatory services.
The programme is also expected to create a conducive business environment to attract private capital, stimulate youth entrepreneurship and job creation.
In an opening statement, the Head of Service and Chairperson for the committee, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, described the programme as an important step towards the improvement of development planning system within the MMDAs. He therefore entreated the Coordinating Directors to take advantage of the forum and share best practices to tackle emerging challenges in development permit administration.
On his part, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon Michael Okyere Kofi Baafi, said the successful implementation and coordination of the BRR components would position Ghana as the most business-friendly economy in Africa. He reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to ensure the successful implementation of the programme and called for collective efforts and commitment from stakeholders for the success of the BRR programme.
