Accra – Monday, February 21, 2021: The Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) has held a one-day training programme for five (5) Assistant Directors IIB’s (ADIIB’s) and four (4) secretaries. The training was to upgrade the knowledge and job skills of the selected officers on office management in line with the Local Government Service Protocols. The training was delivered through an interactive session and group assignments to address the identified knowledge and skills gaps. The training was opened by the Director of Administration, Ms. Golda Asante and facilitated by Madam Eva Obenewa Tandoh from the Civil Service Training School.
In a brief statement, Ms. Golda Asante welcomed participants and noted that the training is expected to help participants improve management of their Director’s desks, as well as help to develop and coordinate the itinerary and activities of their Directors. This she said would help to respond to one of the recommendations contained in the report on the 2021 end-of-year performance contract assessment for the Directors and Heads of Units of the OHLGS.
The training focused on four major areas, namely; Office Management, Managing Office Resources: The 9M, Managing Your Bosses, and Customer Service with the aim to help participants understand the concept of office management, the functions of an office, the functions of a secretary and how to manage office resources effectively and efficiently. The facilitator also adopted the R.A.T.E.R MODEL to explain the concept of customer service. Participants were put into two groups and tasked to work together on various assignments to help better understand their roles in the office.
In closing the training session, the Chief Director of the OHLGS Mr. James Oppong-Mensah was elated about the success of the training and reminded participants to put to use the skills and knowledge acquired to support the effective and efficient delivery of services to stakeholders.
The training is a first-hand approach and an initiative to impact the skills and build the capacities of the ADIIBs and secretaries.
