OHLGS- Friday, 15th September, 2023: The Local Government Service has entered into a partnership with Bradford University, UK. The partnership aims to build capacity of the staff of the Local Government Service and provide avenue for career progression in the Service.
The partnership agreement was reached when the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bradford University, Professor Vishanth Weerakkody paid a courtesy call on the Head of Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur at his office in Accra.
AREAS OF PARTNERSHIP
The Head of Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur identified: training on Spatial planning and infrastructure development, ethics in human resource management in public service, artificial intelligence, data analysis, network information security, cyber attack and prevention techniques, advanced leadership, change management and innovation in Local Goverment among others as some of the areas within which the university can help enrich the capacities of the staff of the Local Government Service.
Furtherance to this, Professor Vishanth Weerakkody also emphasized that the university offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme with a specialization in Circular Economy. He underscored the impact of the programme in enhancing the competencies of staff of the Service in leadership and sustainability.
ROADMAP AND ACTION PLANS
The parties agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) be signed between the Service and Bradford University. The MoU would detail the Road Map and Action Plans for the execution of the Partnership Agreement.
APPRECIATION
The Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur expressed the appreciation of the Local Government Service Council, Management, and staff of the Local Government Service to Professor Vishanth Weerakkody and Bradford University for the partnership.
Dr. Joseph Dankwah, a Ghanaian Researcher and Lecturer in Human Resource Management at the School of Management, Law and Social Sciences, University of Bradford also commended the Head of Service for accepting to participate in the University of Bradford International Masters Summer School which was held in June 2023.
