OHLGS –Friday July 20, 2018: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) held a send-off ceremony in honour of the former Chief Director, Mr. Joseph Mbitumi Dasanah who retired from active service effective end of June, 2018.
Mr. Dasanah joined the Ghana Public Service as an Administrative Officer Class IV in 1982 and rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Director by dint of hard work. He offered thirty six years of meritorious and uninterrupted service to the nation, Civil Service and the Local Government Service where he provided leadership at the District, Regional and National levels. While in active service he worked in a number of Regions namely Brong-Ahafo, Ashanti and Northern and Greater Accra Regions. In 2012, Mr Dasanah was posted from the Northern Regional Coordinating Council where he was the Acting Regional Co-ordinating Director to the OHLGS in order to tap into his rich expertise.
In a brief to the gathering on Mr Dasanah’s many years of service, the Head of Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur remarked that “It is not surprising that Mr Dasanah had worked with three different Heads of Service during his six or more years stay at the OHLGS”.
Colleagues and well-wishers delivered good will messages which paid glowing tribute to Mr. Dasanah’s humility, loyalty, spirit of sacrifice, wise counsel, patience and dedication to work. In response, Mr. Dasanah conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Council, Head of Service, Management and all present for the honour done him. He expressed mixed feeling about the event as, on one hand he is refreshed that he had served his country well and on the other hand, that his time is done and he must bid everyone good bye. He challenged all to be loyal and do their best to project the Service.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion included the Chairman of the Local Government Service Council, Nana Rex Owusu-Ansah; Members of Parliament; Heads of some Public Service Institutions (Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Institute of Local Government Studies, Executive Secretary of Civil and Local Government Service Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) and Institute of Public Relations); Regional Coordinating Directors; as well as District Chief Executives and District Coordinating Directors.
