GiZ MEETS HEAD OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE

OHLGS – WEDNESDAY 10TH MAY, 2017: GiZ, one of the Development Partners of the Local Government Service (LGS) met the Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur to officially furnish him information on the long-standing mutual bilateral relationship between GiZ and Ghana while exploring possible avenues where the two can build further cooperation.

As crusaders for good governance, GiZ has for the past years provided technical and financial assistance to support Ghana’s decentralisation agenda, of which some assemblies have benefited immensely. The meeting also brought to the fore, critical roles being played by LGS in the country’s decentralisation agenda and how the Service would be assisted to discharge its mandate effectively and efficiently. Also present at the meeting were the Chief Director, Mr. Joseph Dasanah and other senior officers of the OHLGS.

The Head of the GiZ team, Verana Wiesner, congratulated Dr. Nana Ato Arthur on his appointment. She enumerated some initiatives undertaken by her outfit including the development of web based software (technical tool) which will be used by all District Assemblies to help in the street naming and property addressing exercise. According to her, sixty (60) districts have so far been selected to benefit from this new technology for 2 weeks after which it will be rolled out.

Dr. Nana Ato Arthur commended GiZ for their support to the Service. He cited administration and management as areas which needed to be given the necessary boost. He said, the Service lacks the needed capacity and believes GiZ is better positioned to support in this regard. He underscored the need for all assemblies to incorporate the effective use of ICT to improve on Internally Generated Funds (IGF) as well as the digitisation of streets naming address system.
