Handing Over Ceremony Held

The Local Government Service Council and Management staff witnessed an impressive handing over ceremony from the Chief Director to Dr. Callistus Mahama, as the Acting Head of Service on the 22nd of March, 2012, at the Secretariat’s conference room.

Until his appointment Dr. Callistus Mahama, was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS). He also served as a member of the Ministerial Expert Group for the review of Ghana’s decentralization in 2009. Again, he was the Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee (IMCC). The preoccupation of IMCC is to deepen decentralisation through effective policy co-ordination among others. He also represented ILGS on the Local Government Service Council. This position to all intents and purposes gave him a better exposure to both internal and external dynamics of the Service.

Dr. Mahama is a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Cambridge. He has number of publications and consultancy assignments in the area of local governance/decentralization to his credit.

His considerable experience and competence in the area of local governance/decentralization as displayed in his previous assignments definitely makes Dr. Mahama, an excellent choice for the position.
