ACCRA – Thursday March 21, 2019: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur accompanied by the Acting Chief Director, Mr James Oppong Mensah and some Directors of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) paid a courtesy call on the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Andrew Barnes in Accra.
The visit officially introduced the Service to the Commission and explored possible areas of common interest beneficial to the Service and the Commission. Highlights of issues discussed at the meeting were capacity development and training for staff; environmental sanitation and revenue generation improvement; and service delivery.
Dr Arthur underscored the important role the Service plays at the local level; and noted that capacity building and training were key to ensure that staff are equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively. The Head of Service expressed the Services’ interest and preparedness to learn from Australia’s experience in the area of employee’s performance measurement systems.
Mr Barnes informed the meeting of the Australian Government’s Development Assistance Programmes for Ghanaian Students which he believes could be of great benefit to the Service. He requested the Head of Service to identify relevant training areas required by staff of the Service and apply. He expressed his Commissions’ readiness to explore possible areas of synergy and partnership with the Service.
Mr Andrew Barnes welcomed the collaboration and expressed appreciation to the Head of Service and his team for the visit.
