Head of Service Attends 2nd Annual Conference of Procurement Officers

ACCRA – Thursday September 28, 2017: The Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur was chairman for the opening of the 2nd Annual Conference of the Local Government Procurement Professionals Association of Ghana (LOGPPAG) in Accra under the theme “Public Financial Management – the role of Procurement Officers”. The annual conference of LOGPPAG brings together key stakeholders to review, deliberate, educate and address pertinent issues to ensure efficient discharge of work by procurement officers.

In his remarks, Dr. Arthur called on procurement officers in the Service to avoid acts that were inconsistent with efficient, accountable and prudent procurement management practices. He urged them to strictly adhere to procedures and regulations in order to uphold the principles of competition and transparency at all times.

The Head of Service stressed on the need for procurement professionals to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties as a precursor for ensuring effective public financial management in the country. He also expressed dissatisfaction about the recent revelation contained in the Auditor-General’s Report, citing various financial infractions and uncompetitive procurement processes in some MMDAs.

Dr. Arthur said that the Service is working strenuously to implement its Capacity Building Framework and will soon commence training programmes to build the capacities of staff.

Present at the ceremony were the Chief Director, Mr Joseph M. Dasanah and other senior officers of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).

LOGPPAG is an Association of Procurement officers within the Procurement Class of the Local Government Service.
