HEAD OF SERVICE ATTENDS 4TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF LGS PROCUREMENT PROFESSIONALS

Winneba-Thursday November 21, 2019: The Local Government Procurement Professionals Association of Ghana (LOGPPAG) has held its 4th National Conference at Winneba in the Central Region with the Head of the Local Government Service in attendance. The Conference was theme ‘Promoting Professionalism in Procurement Management in the Local Government Service, the role of the Procurement Officer’. It brought together procurement professionals from across the Service to discuss, deliberate, share ideas and best practices to enhance service delivery.

Opening the 2-day Conference, the Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur commended the procurement officers for the commitment, dedication and hardwork exhibited over the years in spite of the numerous challenges encountered in the discharge of duty. He entreated them to be diligent to maintain the highest level of professionalism and assured them of the Service’ continued support to equip them with the requisite skills and tools to discharge their duties effectively. He entreated them to be abreast of laws and international best practices on procurement management and adhere to same to curb procurement related infractions and promote the timely delivery of cost effective services that is devoid of corruption and inefficiencies.

The Regional Co-ordinating Director, Mr Kingsley Boahene who represented the Central Regional Minister called on the Association to ensure its members are motivated and adequately equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to discharge their duties effectively. He urged them to ensure judicious management and efficient use of hard earned resources. He also encouraged them to be analytical and keep up with product and service trends.

The President of the Association, Mr Lawson Ashorm commended the OHLGS for the tremendous assistance and supportive roles it continues to play in ensuring the sustainability of the Association. He expressed the Association’s concern about a number of issues that bother largely on human resource management and other related issues.

Speakers at the conference emphasised the need for procurement professionals in the Service to adhere to the tenets of existing regulatory and legal frameworks for effective financial management and accounting. Participants were urged to seek affiliation and membership with professional bodies and associations. Participants will also use the conference to analyse critical issues hindering effective procurement delivery and explore pragmatic solutions to improving it.

Also present at the Conference was the President of the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS), Mr Collins Agyemang and representatives of other professional bodies and institutions.
