Northern Region- Wednesday 26th April, 2023: The Head of Local Government Service paid unannounced working visits to two (2) Assemblies in the Northern Region namely: Savelugu Municipal Assembly and Tamale Metropolitan Assembly. The purpose of the unannounced visit was to among other things ensure staff are at post and working to ensure improved service delivery.
The Head of Service was accompanied by the Regional Coordinating Director, Alhassan Issahaku and a Public Affairs Officer at the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS). The visit took two (2) forms: office-to-office and a staff durbar. Staff also had the opportunity to voice their concerns in an open forum.
The Head of Service upon his arrival went round the offices after which he addressed Staff at a durbar on his observations. He conducted a roll call of which Staff who weren’t present with no justifiable cause were asked to write their own query letters and submit to his office in Accra.
He urged Staff to see the office as a professional office and not an extension of a political party and be as professional as possible. Their attitude he said is what makes them professional and not their certificates. However, he cautioned Staff who exhibit unseriousness at work with regards to absenteeism and lateness to be careful since staff found culpable would be sanctioned. He admonished Staff present to value their work and put in their best to improve performance and the overall development of their jurisdictions.
Among other things Dr. Arthur pleaded with the Chief Executives to resource their Staff especially the Environmental Health Officers in order to be held accountable for their actions. He reiterated that all classes in the Service are of equal importance and must be regarded as such.
Present at both Assemblies were the Chief Executives and their Coordinating Directors.
