Accra – Friday June 9, 2023: The Head of the Local Government Service (LGS), Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has planted a commemorative tree on the third edition of the Green Ghana Project under the theme “Our Forest Our Health”.
At the forecourt of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), some members of the Management team and staff joined the Head of Service (HoS) on the short exercise to commemorate the 2023 Green Ghana Day.
In his speech, Dr. Arthur reiterated that the project was a government of Ghana initiative as part of an aggressive national afforestation and reforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change. He said the exercise was also used to symbolise the twenty (20) years organisational growth of the LGS and will seek to ensure it is nurtured with the needed attention to grow together with the Service. He encouraged staff of the OHLGS to support the exercise on the drive “One Staff One Plant” with the seedlings provided to ensure they plant in their various homes and communities.
The maiden edition of the Green Ghana Project was held on June 11, 2021, where an estimated seven (7) million tree seedlings were planted across the nation.
A total number of ten (10) million seedlings are expected to be planted across the country for the 2023 edition of the Green Ghana Project.
