HEAD OF SERVICE VISITS SELECTED MMDAS IN THE GREATER ACCRA REGION

ACCRA – Thursday September 16, 2021: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has paid working visits to three (3) Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region namely Okaikoi North, Korley Klottey and Krowor Municipal Assemblies. The visits provided the Head of Service with first-hand information on the performance of work by officers in the respective Assemblies. The Head of Service was accompanied by the Chief Director and some Directors from the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS).

Dr. Arthur commended the three Assemblies for their positions in the 2020 Performance Contract assessment rankings and urged them not to rest on their oars. He reminded the officers of the need for professionalism in their quest to give-off their best while ensuring political neutrality, creativity and innovation. He admonished the staff to be punctual and demonstrate the highest level of confidentiality. He called for harmonious working relationships among colleagues and the promotion of team work for a healthy working environment.

In reference to the Supreme Court ruling on political neutrality of staff of the Local Government Service and the Civil Service, the Head of Service noted that it is out of place for staff of the Service to overtly participate in active politics. He warned of the potential stringent sanctions likely to be served to staff found culpable. Rather, he encouraged staff to meaningfully invest their time in self-development to support their Assemblies to effectively deliver their mandates. He assured of the efforts of the OHLGS to timeously undertake career management and other related functions to motivate staff.

The interaction with staff featured open fora which afforded staff the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on issues of concern.

Also present at the respective Assemblies visited were the Municipal Chief Executives, Coordinating Directors and Presiding Members who were appreciative of the visit by the Head of Service and his team as it will serve to motivate staff.
