INTERNAL AUDITORS OF RCCs AND MMDAs TRAINED

EJISU – November 6, 2019: The capacities of One Hundred and Twelve (112) Internal Auditors of Regional Co-ordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Ashanti and Western North Regions have been built at a training workshop held at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region. The programme was organised by the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) to sharpen the skills, competences and enhance the knowledge of internal auditors to be responsive and keep abreast of modern trends to ensure prudent public financial management.

The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur in a brief remarks commended the Internal Auditors for their dedication, hard work and commitment which have promoted transparency, prudence and accountability in the use of public resources over the years. He entreated them to be diligent and maintain the highest levels of professionalism to complement national efforts for the achievement of the national decentralisation agenda.

Dr. Arthur informed participants that, the Service will soon convene a session between Chief Executives, Coordinating Directors, Internal Auditors, Finance and Budget officers to deliberate on measures to address emerging public financial management concerns. He called on the auditors to live above reproach and discharge their management function professionally to stem allegations of impropriety and misconduct.

Some of the areas highlighted at the training included the legal framework for internal auditing, risk-based auditing, preparation and presentation of audit report to management and other stakeholders, relationship management with local level stakeholders, contract management auditing, procurement of works and revenue audit.

The training workshop at Ejisu was part of a series of trainings organised concurrently in other Regions by the OHLGS to train a total of Five Hundred and Fifty-Two (552) Internal Auditors in the Service.
