LGS BUILDS THE CAPACITY OF CLIENT SERVICE OFFICERS

VARIOUS- Between February 14th and February 23rd 2018: The Head of Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur visited Kumasi for a workshop organised for Client Service Officers of the Local Government Service. The workshop was organised for Client Service Officers in all the 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). The training was clustered into 4 zones namely; the Kumasi Zone involving Client Service Officers in the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions, the Ho Zone involving Client Service Officers in the Volta and Eastern Regions, the Elmina Zone involving Client Service Officers in the Western, Central and Greater Accra Regions and the Tamale Zone involving Client Service Officers in the Upper East, Upper West and Northern Regions.

The three-day workshop was organised under the theme, “Redefining Client Service in the Local Government Service”. Among other things, it was aimed at sharpening the skills and improving the knowledge of the Client Service Officers in dealing with the general public thus the Local Government Service’s Vision of being “A world class decentralized client oriented service”. Participants at the workshop were introduced to an overview (Citizens as Clients and Customers), Principles of Client Service Management, Citizen Satisfaction, Basic aspects of Clients’ Service and Leading an effective Local Government Service.

Dr. Nana Ato Arthur in his address stated that Client Service was what the Local Government Service was about and it was therefore imperative to note that there is a need for the officers playing such roles to be trained to discharge their duties professionally. The success of any organisation he said was the responsibility of all. Dr. Arthur said the Local Government Service needed to be a professional Service and pledged his commitment to fight for the rights of staff to realize his vision.

Accompanying the Head of Service were the Director for Human Resource Development, Mr Oppong Mensah and the Chief Director of the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council.

The last phase of the workshop ends on Friday, 23rd February, 2018 in Tamale for Client Service Officers in the 3 Regions of the North.
