LGS ENDS VERIFICATION OF ACADEMIC CERTIFICATES OF STAFF

OHLGS – Monday, July 24, 2017: The Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur during his regional tours in July, 2017 hinted of a nationwide exercise to verify the original academic certificates and first appointment letters of all professional staff in the Local Government Service (LGS). The exercise was to ensure that professional staff in the Service have the requisite academic qualification to competently discharge their duties with professionalism.

The exercise which begun at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th July, 2017 was replicated at the Regional level across the country from Wednesday 19th – Friday 21st July, 2017 for officers of the 10 Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) by officers from the OHLGS.

The process involved the inspection of appointment letters and academic certificates of professional staff and copies made. Staff who fall within the group of professionals are those who entered the Service with first degree or upgraded after obtaining their first degree.

The exercise was very successful as staff lent their unalloyed support and cooperation to those in charge. Outcome of the exercise will be analysed to inform management processes and decision making.
