LGS PRESENTS 2022 BUDGET ESTIMATES TO PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

Parliament House – Friday December 10, 2021: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur led a team of officers from the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) and RCCS to present its Budget Estimates for the 2022 Fiscal Year to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development for deliberation. The deliberations was presided over by the Committee’s Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi.

In the presentation of the 2022 budget estimates, the head of the budget directorate at the OHLGS, Mr. Emmanuel Nartey highlighted the financial performance and achievements of the LGS in 2021. Other areas he touched included key performance information on budget programs; Key priority projects and operations for year 2022 and the medium term.

Members of the Committee deliberated extensively on the budget estimates presented and raised numerous concerns paramount among which were inadequate budgetary allocation for goods and Services, logistics and capital expenditure. It was suggested that there should be a second look at the budgetary allocations provided to the Service to ensure the successful discharge of its mandate.

The Regional Co-ordinating Directors and Regional Budget Officers of eight (😎 Regional Coordinating Councils (RCC) namely, Greater Accra, Central, Bono, Volta, Western, Ashanti, Upper East and Savannah Regions were also present to share their regional specific issues with the committee. .

Present at the meeting were a delegation from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGRD) led by its Minister, Hon. Daniel Botwe accompanied by his three Deputy Ministers and some senior officers. Hon.Botwe expressed appreciation to the Chairman and Members of the Committee for their continuous support and contributions to strengthening decentralization and local governance in the country.

Also present at the meeting were Representatives from the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

The Committee will engage the remaining eight (😎 RCCs on Monday December 13, 2021 on their specific issues.
