Aburi – Friday September 1, 2023: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) has ended the second batch of the Record Management sensitisation programme for staff of the Service.
The workshop sensitised staff on new areas in the Records Management Manual (RMM) that required support for effective implementation.
The one-day programme which was held at Aburi, brought participants together to discuss the challenges they have encountered in their action plans since the rollout of the RMM and the way forward for its successful implementation and sustainability.
The Director of Administration, Ms. Golda Asante welcomed all participants and reiterated that the workshop was a continuation of the first batch which was organised in February to walk participants through new areas in the RMM that required support for effective implementation. She said the development of the new RMM started in the years 2020 and 2021 where selected Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and Metropolitan Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs) from the Greater Accra Region piloted for successful rollout. She revealed that the second and third years were scheduled for its successful implementation and sustainability across the Local Government Service (LGS).
Ms Golda Asante applauded Officers of the OHLGS, for their dedication towards the development of the RMM. She further expressed the appreciation of the Head of Service to the Officers of the Records Management Unit (RMU) for embracing the new RMM and working tremendously to ensure the sustainability of the manual. She urged participants to share the success stories gained whilst working with the Manual as well the challenges they have encountered to inform Management’s decisions on successful operationalisation of the RMM. She expressed optimism for a successful workshop and admonished participants to fully participate and make insightful contributions.
Some of the progress chalked according to the participants included the proper coordination of both incoming and out-going correspondence, introduction of the new classification of records, referencing of files for easy retrieval and proper tracking on migration of files within the OHLGS, proper management of all kinds of correspondence which has helped in the proper keeping of files in the best shape and condition.
