OHLGS OFFICIALLY INTRODUCES NEW HEAD OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE TO STAFF

OHLGS – Monday, June 23, 2025: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) formally introduced the newly appointed Head of the Local Government Service (LGS), Professor Lord Mensah, during its first staff durbar for the year. 

In a welcome address, the Director of Administration and General Services, Ms. Golda Asante, officially presented the Head of Service and noted that his background is grounded in strong research and analytical expertise. She emphasized that Professor Mensah brings valuable international and local experience that is expected to enhance the operations of the Service in key areas such as leadership, fiscal decentralisation, development finance, and financial oversight. Ms. Asante expressed optimism that his leadership would make a lasting and positive impact on the Service. 

In his address, Professor Mensah described the engagement as an opportunity to connect with staff and discuss pressing issues affecting the Service. He called for collective support toward the successful implementation of his vision, which includes professionalising the Local Government Service through merit-based practices, continuous training, and ethical conduct; promoting data-driven decision-making; fostering partnerships with the private sector to boost local economic development; and strengthening fiscal decentralisation and revenue generation. 

He also underscored the importance of effective human resource management in driving organizational performance. He assured staff of his commitment to urgently address concerns related to staff welfare and career progression. 

The Chief Director of OHLGS, Madam Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye, reiterated that, the sustainability of the Head of Service’s vision depends on active participation, collaboration and involvement of all staff. She encouraged employees to uphold professionalism and contribute meaningfully toward achieving the Service’s development goals. 

During an open forum, staff raised concerns about unresolved working conditions and appealed to the Head of Service to take steps to improve staff welfare and operational efficiency. 

The durbar ended with renewed commitment from staff to support the Head of Service’s agenda and contribute to building a responsive and efficient Local Government Service.
