OHLGS PARTICIPATES IN MONITORING OF REGIONAL BUDGET HEARINGS

Various – October 11, 2021: The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service is currently participating in an exercise to monitor Regional Budget Hearings as part of efforts to ensure all MMDAs are prepared towards the presentation of their 2022 budgets.

The Director for Budget at the OHLGS, Mr. Emmanuel Nartey leads the team assigned to the Bono, bono East and Ahafo Regions to guide various MMDAs in its budget preparation. Other members of the team include staff of the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the Ministry of Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGRD).

All agencies of government prepare their budget based on guidelines issued by the Ministry of Finance and the composite budget hearings are conducted access whether departmental budgets reflect all relevant needs. Regional Budget Hearings organized in all 16 Regions also provide opportunity for stakeholders including traditional authorities, heads of departments, CSOs, NGOs to participate in the budget preparation.

The budget hearing arrangement is part of efforts to deepen decentralized local governance through participatory planning and accountability at all levels of governance. The hearings are taking place concurrently all Regions from October 10 – 23, 2021.
