Accra – Monday –Tuesday August 31st, 2021: A two- day training workshop has been organised for Janitors at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) in Accra. The training which was facilitated by ClenaingPlus was to sharpen and upgrade the knowledge and skills, inculcate the right and positive attitudes and improve the efficiency, effectiveness and increase productivity of the janitors.
At the opening of the training workshop, the Chief Director of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, Mr James Oppong –Mensah commended the janitors for their commitment and dedication to work. He emphasized the critical role of janitors in ensuring a clean and safe work environment and urged them to continue in the same spirit to give off their best. He reiterated the Management’s commitment to periodically develop the capacities of staff to improve service delivery. Mr Oppong-Mensah hinted Management’s plan to recruit additional janitors to augment existing ones.
The Director of Administration, OHLGS, Ms. Golda Grace Asante stressed on the need for them to apply themselves to the values of integrity, discipline, accountability and commitment while ensuring they adhere to standard practices laid out to deliver world class services. She also encouraged them to fully utilise the knowledge and skills acquired to improve upon their work.
The training deepened the understanding of the janitors on general cleaning techniques and standard procedures in ensuring safety while cleaning. Areas covered during the two- day training included basic cleaning and safety; personal hygiene & presentation; effective customer service and detergent & arrangement. Others were time and waste management; washroom cleaning; covid -19 education as well as disciplinary matters in the Local Government Service.
Key among the issues raised during the training session was the need for the OHLGS to provide janitors with logistics for janitory services to enable them carry out their duties effectively.
Participants were awarded certificates of participation from CleaningPlus. Also present at the Training were some senior officers of the OHLGS.
