Orientation for newly appointed Heads of Agric Department of MMDAs/RCCs

The Local Government Service is mandated to ensure Administrative Decentralization which is one of the major pillars in the decentralization agenda. The objective of the administrative decentralization is ‘’to improve the administrative and human resources capacity of the entire membership of the Service and other Local Government stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.

In line with this mandate, the Local Government Service organized a two (2) day orientation programme for newly appointed heads of the Agric Departments in the MMDAs.
The purpose of the programme was to enhance the knowledge of the participants in the under-listed key areas with a view to building their capacity for an effective collaboration and service delivery at the Assembly.

• Role of Regional and District Departments of Agriculture in delivering on the Food and Agriculture Sector Development Policy (FASDEP)

Resources persons for the workshop included a team from the Local Government Service Secretariat and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
Participants also included all heads of Agric Departments at the MMDAs and RCCs in the country. The orientation programme was zoned into three and held at Cape Coast, Kumasi and Tamale between 14th and 23rd February, 2016. The Greater Accra, Central and Western Regions as zone one, Volta, Ashanti and Eastern Regions forming zone two and the Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West as zone three.

At the end of the orientation programme, the newly appointed heads of Agric Department were issued their appointment letters and tasked by the Chief Director of the Local Government Service Secretariat, Mr. Joseph M. Dasanah, to deliver value for money, the services offered at their various Assemblies to promote local and national development for the common good of the country.
