Mensvic Hotel– Monday, August 12, 2024: The Head of Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has encouraged key stakeholders in the Decentralized National Development Planning System to demonstrate strong leadership skills and ensure coordination between, and across sectors to bridge policy and functional overlaps among institutions.
He made the admonition when he opened a capacity building workshop on Strengthening Leadership and Governance within the Decentralized National Development Planning System for selected staff of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and key stakeholders from selected institutions in Accra.
According to Dr. Ato Arthur, development planners play vital roles in leadership, especially in planning, integration and implementation of public policies and programs, hence the need to timely build their capacity to provide the expected leadership.
He admitted that, policy performance gaps such as weak coordination, collaboration and integration, silo planning implementation, limited accountability and transparency, and limited resources impede the smooth delivery of their work, the workshop was however, very timely to address those challenges to strengthen institutions and policy framework development.
Participants were drawn from middle and senior management level staff from the Jubilee House, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD), the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), the Public Service Commission, the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), and the Regional Development Planning Officers.
