OPENING OF ADMISSIONS FOR ILGS MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) has opened admissions for its revitalised flagship Master’s Degree Programmes for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The four (4) programmes being mounted by the ILGS are all relevant for a professional career in local governance and development practice. These are:

  • MSc. Environmental Science, Policy and Management
  • MSc. Local Economic Development
  • MSc. Public Financial Management
  • M.A. Local Governance and Management

The ILGS is accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). It also has standing relationship with other reputable international institutions of higher learning for world class instruction and learning.

The Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS) would want to encourage the RCCs and all MMDAs to prioritise academic progression of promising staff. To this end, each RCC and MMDA are entreated to nominate at least one (1) staff member to pursue the academic programmes offered by the ILGS.

Currently, the programmes run during weekends at both the Accra and Tamale Campuses of the Institute. They are made up of two (2) semesters taught courses and one (1) semester thesis/ project work. The ILGS will also in this academic year run these programmes on modular basis to enable students attend lectures during their leave periods. The academic fee is a modest GHC 14,500.00 and re-opening date for the 2019/2020 academic year is 30th August, 2019.

We are by this correspondence requesting that all Regional HR Managers shork with their respective Chief Directors/ RCDs and colleague HR Managers in the MMDAs to generate a list of prospective students unto the programme and submit same to the OHLGS by 29th August, 2019.
