ASHANTI REGIONAL MINISTER CALLS FOR UNITY IN DIVERSITY

Dr. Frank  Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has urged residents of the region to emphasize on their commonalities rather than their differences. This comments were made during a cultural event held on April 15, 2025, as part of the highly anticipated AshantiFest, which celebrates the region’s rich heritage and diversity. The event was graced by dignitaries such as the Chief Director of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Michael Owusu Amoako, Dr. William Kwame Amankra Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Education Director and television personality, Nana Ama McBrown.

Dr. Amoakohene noted emphasized that”as we celebrate our culture and traditions, let us remember that our diversity is our strength, focusing on what divides us only weakens our bonds. We must work together, regardless of our different backgrounds.”

Dr. Amoakohene also highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of fostering inclusive governance. He noted that, “the president has tasked all his appointees with the responsibility of promoting inclusive governance. This is a call to action for each of us to play our part in building a society where everyone feels represented and valued.” He emphasized the importance of unity, advocating for a collective focus on shared values.

In discussing the strategic advantages of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Amoakohene pointed out its central location, stating that the region is not only geographically positioned at the heart of Ghana thereby attracting people from all walks of life, but it is also rich in culture and resources which can be harnessed to drive development.

AshantiFest, which began on April 12, 2025, features a range of cultural displays, performances, and traditional cuisine, serving as a platform for fostering intercultural dialogue among the youth.

The festival kicked off with a large-scale clean-up initiative, followed by events in soccer, boxing, fashion, education, science, and technology fair.

On Tuesday 15th April,  the AshantiFest event focused on cultural display, food bazaar and Jama competition. According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, the array of activities planned for the festival reflects the diverse facets of the region and its culture.
