Accra – Thursday March 16, 2023: The Executives of the Ghana Association of Local Government Administrators (GALGA) have paid a courtesy call on the Head of the Local Government Service (LGS), Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur. The visit which took place at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), among other things was for them to express appreciation to the Head of Service for supporting the full establishment of the Association and discuss some pertinent issues confronting the smooth running of the Association for possible interventions.
The President of the Association, Mr. Edmund Osei-Gyamfi, informed that the Association is challenged with a number of issues including, lack of training for Administrative Officers; the delay in the appointment of Heads of the Administrative Units; the centralisation and operationalization of the Administrative Department; and the appointment of Ag. Coordinating Directors in the Administrative Class, and issues with promotional interviews for Deputy Directors and Coordinating Directors.
He said that these issues needed immediate intervention in order to give a facelift to the Administrative Class of the LGS for which he pleaded with the Head of Service and his Management members to intervene.
In his welcome address, the Head of Service expressed his appreciation to the Executives of GALGA for the visit. He noted that the Local Government Service (LGS) was very much committed to the cause of ensuring the effective and smooth running of the Administrative Class. He gave the assurance that Management of the LGS would expedite actions to address them.
Again, he emphasised that, professionalism in the LGS is central to achieving set goals and was optimistic all possible means would be considered to provide the needed skill set for the Administrative Class when the Service has the financial strength. Dr. Arthur also brought to bear the indiscipline amongst some members of the Association and admonished the Executives to reprimand culpable ones to serve as deterrent to others.
