Accra – Wednesday September 8, 2021: The Executives of the Ghana Environmental Health Officers Association paid a courtesy call on the Head of Service, Ing. Dr Nana Ato Arthur at his office in Accra. The visit was to officially introduce the Association to Management of the Service and also discuss some concerns of members.
The delegation was led by the Association’s President who is also the Regional Environmental Health Officer for the Western North Region, Mr. Paul Nutsugah. Pertinent among the issues discussed were the proposal for the possible elevation of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit to a departmental status; the absence of code for the grade of Environmental Health Analyst; delay in the staff upgrading; inadequate logistics; inadequate sanitary labourers and the need to strengthen reporting relationships.
The Head of Service was elated about the concerns raised and addressed them accordingly. He indicated that the concern on delay in staff upgrading is a general one and measures are being put in place to address it. He disclosed the Service’s plan to recruit additional lower grade staff across the various job classes.
Dr Arthur also used the opportunity to call on the executives to advise their members to be wary of vices that have the tendency to tarnish the image of the Service and urged leadership to impress on their members to exhibit professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Also present at the meeting were some senior staff at the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS).
