HEAD OF SERVICE ADDRESSES CHIEF EXECUTIVES OF NGGA DISTRICTS

Tamale – Friday November 16, 2018: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has addressed 35 District Chief Executives of project districts under the Northern Ghana Governance Activity (NGGA) and RING at a training workshop at the Global Dreams Hotel organized through the collaborative effort of the Care Northern Ghana Governance Activity and the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS). The training formed part of implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the OHLGS and C-NGGA signed in May 2018.
The NGGA operates in 28 districts in the Northern, Upper West and East Regions and it was being implemented by a consortium which includes WANEP, Action Aid and SEND Ghana with Care International as lead. The NGGA which begun in 2015, is aimed to enhance agricultural productivity in northern Ghana by improving the decentralized agricultural structures and strengthen Civil Society demand for better agricultural service delivery.
In a welcome address, the Chief of Party for the NGGA, Mr. Michael Alandu was delighted about the level of participation of the Chief Executives and was hopeful the training workshop would yield the desired results. He stated that though the three Regions of the North had experienced some interventions in various sectors especially agriculture, a lot more needed to be done. He said the goal of the training was to ensure Chief Executives were well equipped to better manage and lead developmental issues within their jurisdictions.
Dr. Arthur expressed appreciation to NGGA and USAID for the partnership and proceeded to thank the Chief Executives for their presence at the workshop. He was optimistic that deliberations at the workshop would have positive impact on the operations of participating Districts. He urged Chief Executives to as a matter of duty adopt the Inter Service and Sectoral Collaboration and Cooperation Systems framework developed by the Service to ensure effective collaboration and co-operation in all the operations of the Assembly.
Workshop participants were treated to presentations on topics which included Decentralisation, Local Governance, Social Accountability and the use of Public Financial Management (PFM) templates in addition to a roundtable discussion to share ideas, experiences and best practices.
The Head of Service was accompanied by the Ag. Chief Director at the OHLGS, Mr. James Oppong Mensah.
