Tamale – Friday November 16, 2018: The Head of the Local Government Service, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur paid a working visit and interacted with staff of Nanton District Assembly, one of the newly created District Assemblies in the Northern Region. The visit formed part of his nationwide familiarisation tour of District Assemblies across the country. He was accompanied by the Ag. Chief Director, Mr. James Oppong Mensah at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).
Interacting with staff, Dr Arthur echoed his vision anchored on the areas of staff capacity building, revenue mobilization improvement, professionalism, sharing of best practices and sanitation management. He charged staff to be good ambassadors of the Service, ensure good time management and make dedication to duty a top priority. He called on the leadership of the Assembly to deploy the clocking system to check lateness and absenteeism.
The Chief Executive of Nanton, Abubakari Hathiraman reiterated on-going measures for the effective management of the Assembly. He indicated that, the key staff posted to the Assembly had very rich and diverse experiences which were being harnessed for the development of the District. He expressed appreciation to the Head of Service and the Acting Chief Director for the visit.
Discussions at the open forum underscored the negative effect the absence of some key departments have had on the smooth running of the Assembly. Other issues raised by staff present included delays in conversion, upgrading and mechanization of staff. The Head of Service and his team responded to the concerns raised by staff and showed appreciation for the warm reception.
