The Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Callistus Mahama on Wednesday 9th November, 2016 hosted delegates from the Health Training Institutions Secretariat and Management (HTISM) to enhance collaboration between the Service and School Authorities to produce quality professionals to meet the demands of the populace and enhance environmental sustainability. Present at the meeting were the Chief Director, Mr. Joseph M. Dasanah and Directors of the LGSS.
Highlights of issues discussed during the meeting were how to handle officers in active service who graduated from the Schools of Hygiene between 1987 and 1994 without certification; secondment of staff of the Service to the Schools of Hygiene to support teaching and learning; inclusion of the instructors of the Schools of Hygiene in capacity building programmes to provide them with hands-on and practical knowledge on day-to-day environmental health practices in field; and the recruitment and posting of the 2015/2016 batch of environmental health officers.
Dr. Mahama said, the Service is ever ready to support efforts of the Health Training Institutions to ensure improvement in training standards. He urged the principals of the institutions to ensure that graduates of their respective institutions are issued with academic certificates upon completion of their programme and in addition, the graduates should seek professional certification by the Allied Health Professional Council.
