LGS Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KNUST

On 5th July 2016 the Local Government Service signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as a trigger for the commencement of the KNUST-LGS Project on District Assemblies Enabled Programme for Accelerated Economic and Social Development at the District Level. The MoU spells out the modalities for collaboration between LGS and KNUST to ensure effective and efficient support for the socio-economic development of the districts.

The KNUST-LGS Project is to establish a partnership for the building of capacities to facilitate Local Economic Development (LED) to address socio-economic challenges through the identification and use of local resources and opportunities at the District Assembly level. Additionally, KNUST is expected to use the opportunity to improve the quality of work of its faculties by relating theory to practice and create the opportunity for students to be exposed to practical field experience.

Accordingly, the Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Callistus Mahama and the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Obiri-Danso jointly performed the official launch ceremony of the implementation of the MoU on Wednesday 26th October, 2016 at the IDL Conference Centre of KNUST. Provosts, Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments of KNUST, Chief Director of the LGSS, Regional Co-ordinating Directors and Directors of the LGSS were among the dignitaries present.

The high points of the ceremony were the welcome address by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Obiri-Danso; presentations on Community Engagements by Professor William Oduro and Overview of the KNUST-LGS Project by the Project Coordinator, Professor (Mrs.) I. Oduro; and delivery of the keynote address by the Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
