HEAD OF SERVICE PARTICIPATES IN A PUBLIC SECTOR REFORM ROUND-TABLE DISCUSSION

ACCRA – Wednesday January 17, 2018: The Head of Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur participated in a roundtable discussion that reviewed Public Sector Reforms in Ghana. It was organised by the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG). Discussants were drawn from various governmental and non-governmental institutions. The seminar was on the theme “Six Decades of the Public Sector in Ghana: Issues and Prospects”.

Dr. Arthur noted that, considerable grains have been made with the implementation of local governance reforms in Ghana; however these enviable feats had been accompanied by some challenges. He called for commitment in addressing the teething issues confronting local governance as part of measures to achieve the goals of the National Public Sector Reform programme.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Joseph Atsu Ayee highlighted the critical role of transformational local governance in a country’s progressively growing economy. He stated that transformational local governance allowed for good policy briefs that informed policy decisions. Other discussants included Dr. Alex Glover-Quartey, former Head of Civil Service and Mrs. Bridget Katsriku, Chairman, Public Services Commission.

The roundtable discussion was organised by IDEG to address the fallacy that public sector reforms in Ghana were neither co-ordinated nor driven by any national reform strategy. The roundtable discussion was the inaugural lecture in a series of seminars to be organised by IDEG.
