Head of Service Pays Working Visits to some District Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region

ACCRA – Monday August 14, 2017: The Head of the Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur has commenced a series of working visits to Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country as part of measures to motivate staff and ensure that administrative bottlenecks that impinge on their performance are addressed. The visits are again designed to enable the Head of Service interact with staff of MMDAs and also obtain first-hand information on their operations and concerns.

The first round of the visits by Head of Service was to three Municipal Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region namely; Ledzekuku Krowor (LeKMA), La Dadekotopon (LaDMA) and La Nkwantanang Municipal Assemblies. He was accompanied by the Chief Director, Mr. Joseph M. Dasanah and other Director at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS).

Dr. Arthur lauded the efforts of the three Assemblies in the area of revenue mobilization. He however stressed on the need for them to do better. He urged the Assemblies to plug channels of revenue leakages as well as by putting in place effective mechanisms for setting and achieving revenue targets. He suggested the display of the weekly performance of revenue collectors on the notice board as a strategy to ensure transparency and accountability. This he believes will encourage the revenue collectors to perform better.

The Head of Service called on staff to be loyal, committed and support their respective Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) to discharge their duties effectively. Again he informed the gatherings about the on-going nationwide postings and urged them to embrace it in good faith.
