Accra – Wednesday August 10 2017: The Head of Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur was sworn-in as a member of the Ministerial Advisory Board for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) together with 12 other members. The swearing-in ceremony was performed by the Senior Minister, Hon. Yaw Osafo Marfo in the conference room of Ministry.
Mr. Osafo Marfo said, government believes in the system of decentralisation as such the Board has been put in place as the supervisory body of the Ministry. He emphasised government’s quest to deepen the decentralised system and mentioned efforts to create new regions as part of the process. Hon. Osafo Marfo said, it is through the Local Governance arrangements that the citizenry will best appreciate the impact of government’s policies and programmes.
The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama on her part reiterated the vision of the Ministry is to achieve substantial and equitable economic growth through Citizen Participation and accelerated service delivery at the local level within a decentralised environment. Hon. Alima Mahama expressed her belief that the institution of the board will help with the effective formulation of policies for the effective administration of the Ministry in the performance of its mandate.
On behalf of the Board, Dr. Mrs Esther Offei Aboagye (former Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies), thanked the Government and Senior Minister for their nomination to serve on the Advisory Board. She assured the Minister that the Board will suggest cutting edge policies that will help deepen decentralisation and local governance in the country.
